A compendium of the three most popular catechisms written in the Nahuatl language and published during the viceregal period.

Juan Romualdo Amaro was a 19th-century Mexican author and editor. He is best known for compiling and translating religious texts to aid in Christian missionary efforts and indigenous education in Mexico. His most significant publication is Doctrina extractada de los catecismos mexicanos de los padres Paredes, Carochi y Castaño. It is an extraction and compilation of earlier prominent Mexican catechisms written by highly selected Jesuit priests, including Ignacio de Paredes, Horacio Carochi, and Bartolomé Castaño. The work focused on Catholic catechism translations and explanations in Nahuatl and Spanish. It was used to fulfill historical mandates requiring that indigenous populations be taught Christian doctrine while bridging the linguistic gap between Castilian Spanish and indigenous languages.

Condition: Modern binding. Old description strip tipped to front paste down, bibliographic notation in pencil to front end paper else very good.
