The *Vocabulario de mexicanismos* (Vocabulary of Mexicanisms) is one of the most significant philological and historical works for the study of the Spanish language as spoken in Mexico. The pioneering historical work by Joaquín García Icazbalceta—published posthumously in 1899 by his son Luis Garcia Pimentel. A foundational dictionary documenting the Mexican Spanish vocabulary, regional idioms, and indigenous etymologies. The edition remains incomplete, ending with the letter G due to the authors death.
Joaquín García Icazbalceta, a prominent historian and writer, dedicated his final years to compiling the country's "provincialisms" in order to document how the Spanish language evolved upon its arrival in Mexico. His work laid the foundations for modern dictionaries, such as the *Diccionario breve de mexicanismos* by Guido Gómez de Silva or the one from the Mexican Academy of the Language.
