Translation of Mariti's "Viaggi per l'Isola di Cipro e per la Soria e Paliestina, Fatti dell'anno 1760-1768," but with some additional information on Cypriot wines taken from Mariti's own monograph on the subject. The first volume contains the most completed description of Cyprus then available, and the second treats of Syria, Palestine and the state of the Greek Church. Mariti spent nine years in the Levant, becoming fluent in both Arabic and Turkish. There was another French translation published in Paris in the same year.
Condition:
Some scuffing and wear to the covers, 3 (out of 4) spine labels are gone, spine ends chipped, front cover of volume II detached along with free end paper; some darkening and foxing to the contents, occasional minor worming, darkening to title-page and preliminary margins, approximately 50 pages in volume II with top corners bumped else a good to very good set.
