This work deals with the composition of the religious social field in the last decades and shows a panorama where a large part of the Mexican population was united by a religion -the Catholic- and its transition to a landscape where the faithful have diversified their beliefs, opening a mosaic of new practices and religious proposals, assuming a dynamic role in the midst of a tense socio-historical and, to a large extent, economic context. The immediate precedent of Regions and religions in Mexico. Studies of socio-religious transformation, coordinated by Alberto Hernández and Carolina Rivera, can be found in the Atlas of religious diversity in Mexico (De la Torre and Gutiérrez, 2007), in which the process of diversification of religions was analyzed. There, the multi-causality of religious change was addressed. The statistical analysis has transcended the border between that work and that which concerns me to enter the complex field of religious beliefs. The authors of this work open a window to the knowledge of religious diversification in the Mexican republic, whose effervescence, they point out, has taken place for 30 years but its beginning is visible a couple of decades ago. These antecedents are analyzed throughout the text so that we can follow in each region the varied historical, social and economic scenarios that have stitched together this complex plot of the religious field and that this study untangles for readers in a very understandable way.
