In 1974 and 1975 Robert Wauchope carried out two seasons of archaeological reconnaissance and excavations, in the northern half of the department of Jutiapa, centering his work mainly in the environs of Asuncion Mita and the cabecera of Jutiapa. He returned to Guatemala in 1976 to continue the analysis of the ceramics, but illness made it impossible to complete the work before his death in 1979. He left copious notes and a partial manuscript that includes the site excavation descriptions and some sections of the introduction of this report. E W Andrews V asked Margaret Bond to complete the work.
