It was a beautiful moonlight night on the Lane campus when Ann Cambridge, feeling her way into the Geology Building, clutched at something to steady herself and found she was holding hands with a dead man. When the light was switched on, Ann, who was secretary in the Geology Department, discovered the corpse to be one hf her employers, Dr Heath. And the would which had killed him, plus the fact that there was no gun near the body, pointed to murder. Heath's colleague, Dave Halloran, had not liked the professor. Heath's wife Sylvia had not loved him. Martin Brooks, who had accumulated gambling debts he was unable to pay, might well have been attempted to kill for the money Dr Heath had recently received for his department. Thus the motives of the various suspects were many, and opportunities still more numerous, as the police, aided by Ann, sought to solve one murder before it should be multiplied.
