The visita was a Spanish colonial institution designed to gather economic information about Indians in parts of the New World controlled by the Spanish Empire. The information was used to determine the kind and amount of tribute due the Crown and to provide a solid basis for overall colonial administration. Nevertheless, much more than purely economic data were gathered, and visitas contain some rich material on the general social organization of the peoples concerned, both Indians and Spaniards.

Volume one soiled and damp stained, some marginalia in introduction of volume one, spines sunned, volume two back wrapper creased, pages age toned, some wear to wrapper edges else a good to very good set.
