Karl Bodmer's America presents the collected works of one of the most versatile and prolific artists to have visited the American frontier. This volume also reproduces for the first time the Karl Bodmer collection at the Joslyn Art Museum. Constituting one of three collections on permanent loan to the museum from The InterNorth Art Foundation, these paints and sketches document the expedition of Prince Maximilian of Wied to North America in 1832-34. Including nearly all of the known, original works by Bodmer relating to his North American experience, this collection testifies to the rich tradition of western reportage in nineteenth-century America and makes a significant contribution to the history of the American West.
