89pp with frontispiece and 45 illustrations. Octavo. Issued in red cloth with cream lettering to spine and cover and pictorial in cream, green, grey and black on cover. Illustrated by F Strothmann. 1st printing of the 1st American edition.

Twain wrote a series of manuscripts, most not published during his lifetime, on the theme of Adam and Eve. Twain discared the view that Adam and Eve should have been held accountalbe for sin, since they had no frame of reference and were born without moral awareness.

Condition:

Corners bumped, very light soiling, spine with light rubbing to ends. A better than very good copy lacking dust jacket.
