This follows with a voyage to Spitzbergen by D C Clavering to experiment to determine the figure of the earth by means of the pendulum vibrating in different latitudes in 1822-23. The essay then returns to Commander Parry's voyages with a discussion Captain George Lyon's exploits in the Griper. This is followed by a discussion on John Franklin and Richardson in 1819-1827 covering the first two voyages of Franklin.
